Chateau Pontet Canet

The Pauillac region is home to the acclaimed Château Pontet-Canet. The Tesseron family, famous for their cognac, has owned Pontet-Canet since 1975, and over this time, quality, auction prices, and consumer acclaim have all increased significantly.

The 200-acre (81-hectare) vineyard is situated immediately south of the châteaux Mouton Rothschild and d'Armailhac in the center of the Pauillac appellation. The warm, well-drained soil, which is composed of Garonne gravel on a limestone base, is ideal for Cabernet Sauvignon, which makes about 62 percent of plantings.

While Pontet Canet is now thought to be deserving of a considerably better status, it was only given a fifth growth grade in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. Its grand vin is a traditional, structured claret with an outstanding refinement that consistently receives top ratings and is in high demand all over the world.
