Eulogio and Rebecca Pomares, founders of Bodegas Zarate in Rias Baixas, embarked on a side project in 2015. They sourced grapes from plots near Val de Salnes, closer to the sea, with different soils and microclimates than their estate. The project features single-parcel wines labeled Parcelarios (I), (II), etc.

The centerpiece is Carralcoba, an old vine parcel of Albarino from Rebecca’s grandmother, planted in the 1940s. The vines are on their own roots (Pie Franco), propagated through an ancient method called Marcottage. The vineyard is farmed naturally, following a regimen similar to Zarate's biodynamic practices. Fermented in a 12HL Chestnut cask, aged for 9-10 months on lees with full malolactic fermentation, the resulting wine is textured and complex, showcasing the mineral and acid core typical of Eulogio’s wines.

This project is a captivating extension of Zarate's work, delving into the undiscovered terroirs and varietals of Rias Baixas.
