The 2017 Lucie Dutron Macon Villages is 100% Chardonnay from sustainably farmed vines located in Viré, Péronne, and Verzé. The production in each location is too small for individual bottling thus using all three sites for this project. The vines are 20-45 years old and grow in limestone and clay soil. We were surprised by the wine's richness and intensity. Pale gold with green flecks, the nose is joyfully expressive, white peach and citrus notes and white flowers jump from the glass. The palate is lush and has weight. Smooth, round, supple and complex with a surprisingly long finish. Flavors are fresh and lively mirroring the aromatics. The wine is a trickster - a Maçon Villages that makes you think it is from a more prestigious zip code.
