Giorgio Rivetti of La Spinetta, the Barbaresco estate behind the rhinoceros label, saw its potential and began making this wine with the 2019 vintage. He calls Timorasso the white Nebbiolo.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe fruit comes from organically farmed vineyards in the villages of Montemarzino, Montegioco and Monleale, at roughly 300 to 400 meters, facing southeast and southwest. The soils are calcareous marl and clay with some sand, close in character to those of Barolo and Barbaresco. The wine is 100% Timorasso, fermented in stainless steel and rested on its lees before bottling, with no oak.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDerthona is the old Roman name for Tortona, the town at the center of the Colli Tortonesi, and local producers adopted it to identify the Timorasso grown there.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003eServing\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eServe at 45 to 50°F in an all-purpose white glass; a short decant helps it open.
