Peter Lauer 'Barrel X' Saar Riesling, Mosel, Germany 2017
Barrel X is Lauer’s calling-card, entry-level off-dry Riesling. This is Lauer’s idea of what a Saar Riesling should be. As an appellation-level wine, it is sourced from multiple vineyards (estate and purchased) in three different villages of the Saar: Ayl, Wawern and Saarburg. Whole clusters are pressed to stainless steel for spontaneous fermentation. Barrel X sits on the lees for 1.5 months. This wine is high-toned and complex containing nuances of minerals, salinity, citrus, and green apple skin.
"A lithe white, showing fine clarity and focus, with orange blossom aromas followed by kumquat and nectarine notes on the palate. Off-dry, offering ample acidity for balance, with a mineral-infused finish. Drink now through 2020. 1,000 cases imported."
