This is a delicious, easy-to-drink yet complex schiava (called vernatsch by the german-speaking people of alto-adige) that comes from a beautiful, if somewhat obscure, (at least to me) part of the world. it is feather light in body and the color is translucent ruby but, like a fine, aged burgundy, it is packed with flavor. it has a beguiling floral bouquet of berries, eucalyptus, rose petals, dark spices and vanilla. on the palate, there are flavors of bing cherries, delicious herbal spice, a hint of mint and an almond tinge. it is delightfully crisp and dry and could happily take a bit of a chill for warmer weather quaffing - hopefully, summer hasn’t totally passed us by. it would complement all manner of dishes, and even has the nerve to stand up to a leg of lamb and not back down.
