About This Wine

Brote Negro is one of Mendoza's most singular wines. Some two decades ago, viticulturist Alberto Arizú noticed darker buds among the Malbec vines of Viña Alicia's 150-year-old Las Compuertas vineyard — a spontaneous mutation, confirmed by DNA analysis to be unlike anything else on earth, with smaller, looser bunches and tinier leaves. The family now farms half a hectare of these vines for this bottling.

Tremendously powerful yet friendly, with smooth-textured, caressing tannins. The flavors are ripe and lush — black cherry and black fruit over a spicy backdrop of clove and cocoa, with a mineral thread. Firm, polished and built for the cellar.
