Mr.D Wine Merchant is a fine and rare wine retailer based in Miami, shipping nationwide. We list more than 12,000 wines, from Burgundy grand cru and classified Bordeaux to grower Champagne, Piemonte, Napa, Rioja, and a long tail of small producers most retailers never carry.
We are not a marketplace. We do not dropship. Every bottle you order passes through our hands in Miami before it goes out to you.
We are a small team. We do not pretend otherwise, and we think that is the advantage.
The D is for Dionysus. We shortened it. The whole thing seemed like a lot to ask of a shipping label.

A restaurant list is a hard school.
Mr.D was founded by Leo Monterrey, who has spent twenty-five years in the wine trade: as a buyer, on the floor, and building direct relationships with producers in Bordeaux, Piemonte, Napa, Mendoza, and Portugal.
Before Mr.D, Leo was a partner in Alter, the Wynwood restaurant named Restaurant of the Year by the Miami Herald and a James Beard semifinalist for Best New Restaurant before it closed in 2020. He built and ran its wine list.
You buy in front of people who send bottles back, you pour the same wine two hundred times, and you find out quickly which bottles actually deliver at their price and which ones only look good on paper. That is the instinct behind this list.
That background is the whole business. The buyer’s guide on every collection page is written by Leo, not outsourced and not generated. When a producer’s style changes, when a vintage is overrated, when a $50 bottle is drinking better than a $180 one from the same commune: that is the kind of call twenty-five years buys you, and it is what the list reflects.
How we buy
Three things, in this order.
Quality, availability, and price relative to what the wine actually sells for. We do not chase trends and we do not pad the list.
First
Quality
The wine has to be worth drinking at its price, not worth drinking for its label. That is the only test that matters at the start.
Second
Availability
We go after allocations and parcels that do not sit on shelves: grower Champagnes, small-domaine Burgundy, back vintages, single-parcel lots.
Third
Price
We check ours against the market before we list. If we cannot be competitive on a wine, we would rather not carry it.
A wine earns its place, or it comes off.
Straight answers
What “in stock” means here.
This part matters, and most wine sites are vague about it. We would rather be specific.
We hold a working inventory at our Miami location and bring in the rest to order. Our suppliers deliver to us one to two times a week. Every bottle is physically in our possession, inspected, and packed by us before it ships. We never ship from a third party’s warehouse, and we never sell futures, pre-arrivals, or pre-orders.
Occasionally a wine sells through at the supplier before we can secure your bottle. It happens, and we will not pretend otherwise. When it does, we contact you: a different vintage at the same price, a comparable wine, or a full refund, your choice. We would rather lose the sale than send you something you did not ask for.
We know a ten-day wait is longer than a mass-market retailer. It is the cost of a list this deep, sourced this way, without a warehouse full of dead stock we need to push on you.

If we need to change a vintage, we ask first and wait for your answer, even if it delays the order.
