Barbera

Although barbera is one of the most planted grape varieties in Italy and was ranked third in terms of acreage until recently, it has often been overshadowed by its neighboring star variety, nebbiolo, in the Piedmont region. However, its potential far surpasses the bland and uninteresting wines that have been produced with it in the past. Despite this, the grape has been cultivated for 800 years and is now gaining popularity in hot regions such as California, Argentina, and Australia. While looking at the numbers alone, you may question why barbera is on the list, but there's no denying its potential to produce exceptional wines.
