Côte de Beaune

The Côte de Beaune is hometown to the finest Chardonnays on the planet. Although much more red wine is made in this southern part of the Côte d'Or, it holds seven of Burgundy's eight white Grands Crus and only one red Grand Cru. The region is also responsible for a handful of Burgundy's top red wines, particularly those from the premier cru vineyards of Pommard and Volnay.

There are 20 village appellations within the Côte de Beaune: Aloxe-Corton, Auxey-Duresses, Beaune, Blagny, Chassagne-Montrachet, Chorey-les-Beaune, Côte de Beaune, Côte de Beaune-Villages, Ladoix, Maranges, Meursault, Monthélie, Pernand-VergelessesPommardPuligny-Montrachet, Saint-Aubin, Saint-Romain, SantenaySavigny-lès-Beaune and Volnay

It also has two district appellations. Côte de Beaune-Villages which have to be Pinot Noir and can come from one or more village appellations except Aloxe-Corton, Beaune, Pommard, and Volnay. The other is Bourgogne-Hautes Côtes de Beaune. It includes more than 20 villages producing red and whites.
