The Fernández Rivera family has always been close to vineyards, and each member has great affection and respect for the Ribera del Duero region's wine. The family has been associated with a lifelong passion passed down through the generations since Alejandro Fernández and Esperanza Rivera purchased a modest winery when they were young and motivated. They established Tempranillo vineyards in Pesquera de Duero against the current of the time, when cereal and beetroot dominated the landscape, motivated by the notion that wines of exceptional quality might once again be produced in their hometown. The family started making the first Tinto Pesquera wines in 1972 in a small stone llagar, or antiquated wine press, from the sixteenth century.
