Weingut Moric

Driven by a passion for Blaufränkisch, Roland departed his family estate in 2001 to establish the Moric project, criticizing prevailing practices that, in his view, misrepresented the grape. Rejecting late harvests and heavy oak, he envisioned Blaufränkisch as a cool-climate grape akin to Pinot Noir or Nebbiolo. Nearly two decades later, Roland's pursuit has garnered disciples, with his Moric wines regarded as Austria's finest expressions of the grape.

Roland adheres to low yields, minimal chemicals, and natural yeasts for slow fermentation, eschewing new oak. Internationally acclaimed, Moric stands as a sought-after fine wine, leading the way in establishing a global reputation for Blaufränkisch.

We are fortunate to have secured a small allocation of Roland's Moric wines which are true expressions of ancient vines in a challenging growing region, where he meticulously applies biodynamic viticulture, obsessive sorting, and fairly primitive winemaking techniques.
