Rod Berglund’s 2018 Pinot Noir “Cuvée de Trois” is a beautiful barrel selection made in the cellars, which now includes a bit of wine from every single vineyard pinot that the winery produces. The wine comes in at fourteen percent octane in this vintage and is beautifully light in color, offering up a complex and vibrant bouquet of cherries, beetroot, mustard seed, lovely soil tones, woodsmoke, gamebird, sweet stem tones and a topnote of rose petals. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, focused, complex and tangy, with a lovely core of red fruit, fine soil undertow, suave, buried tannins and a long, poised and beautifully balanced finish. This is like a cross of Chambolle-Musigny and Russian River Valley pinot in this vintage! Because of its lovely balance, the wine is already drinking pretty well at six years of age, but it has the underlying chassis to age gracefully for several decades. Fine juice.
