The 2018 vintage ushers in a new regime in Lota in particular and in Cousiño in general. For the first time, winemaker Rosario Palma and consultant Felipe de Solminihac worked together on this vintage of Lota from the beginning, starting with the harvest, and the change has been significant. This year's blend includes 22% merlot from vines planted in 1981 and 78% cabernet sauvignon planted in the 1960s. It also spent a year and a half in 225- and 300-liter barrels, and the result not only follows the path of 2017, but takes it to the extremes of delicious delicacy. Soft tannins, spicy tones, lots of red fruit, and herbal details are added to the little earthy notes that are classics of that area. Long in flavors and firm in acidity, this is one of the best versions since its first edition in 2004.
