Alfredo Maestro, hailing from the Basque Country, developed a passion for winemaking while growing up amidst vineyards in Peñafiel. In 1998, he began crafting his own wines, initially following conventional practices. However, a pivotal moment in the early 2000s led him to question the use of additives and chemicals in winemaking, prompting a shift towards natural methods. By 2003, Alfredo abandoned all additives, including sulfur, and adopted a holistic, organic approach in both vineyard and cellar to authentically express the terroir. Over the years, he has sought out neglected, high-elevation parcels in Castilla y León and Castilla-La Mancha, cultivating old-vine varieties like Tinto Fino, Garnacha, Garnacha Tintorera, and Albillo. Operating two small bodegas in Peñafiel and Navalcarnero, Alfredo produces distinctive white, rosado, and tinto wines celebrated for their purity and elegance in a region often fixated on 100% Tinto Fino wines.
