A Tuscan red from a 14th-century charterhouse — owned by Italian rock legend Gianna Nannini, made mostly of Sangiovese.

Certosa di Belriguardo is a 1348 charterhouse just outside Siena in the Chianti dei Colli Senesi, owned by the family of world-famous Italian rock star Gianna Nannini, who took over the estate in 2006 with winemaker Manuel Pieri (a pupil of Renzo Cotarella). "Baccano" — its label a sun-and-moon eclipse, for drinking day or night — is mostly Sangiovese with a touch of Syrah, a joyful, structured Toscana IGT.

A characterful Tuscan red with a rock-and-roll backstory is exactly the bottle that starts a conversation. Bold, structured and berry-driven → named among Italy's "100 Fine Wines" → at $31.99 you're pouring Sienese Sangiovese with a story.

  • Mostly Sangiovese, with a touch of Syrah
  • Toscana IGT — Chianti dei Colli Senesi, near Siena
  • Certosa di Belriguardo — Gianna Nannini's 14th-century estate
  • Winemaker Manuel Pieri (Cotarella school)

Ruby-garnet; intense red-berry fruit over good body, well-placed tannins and a lively nerve. Translation: juicy cherry and wild berry with fresh Sangiovese acidity and supple grip — a joyful, food-loving Tuscan red.

A Sienese Sangiovese from a rock star's charterhouse estate. Exactly the bottle for pasta al ragù and a good story.
