Domaine Mont Bessay Saint-Amour Côte de Besset
Côte de Besset is a cru Beaujolais from Saint-Amour, the northernmost of the ten Beaujolais crus. Made from organically farmed Gamay grown on the highest plot in the appellation, at the top of Mont Bessay on its eastern slope, it is a fresh, structured red with real depth.
Tasting Notes
Bright and crunchy from start to finish, with strawberry and red currant fruit joined by licorice, fennel and graphite. The tannins are firmer than most Saint-Amour, and the long, stony finish carries a note of candied lemon.
About Domaine Mont Bessay
Domaine Mont Bessay was founded in 2021 on the granite hill of Bessay, the northernmost of the Beaujolais hills, on the border with Burgundy. It is run by the team behind Domaine du Cellier aux Moines in Givry, with Guillaume Marko as winemaker, and applies a Burgundian plot-by-plot approach to high-altitude vineyards. The Côte de Besset parcel sits on sandstone and granite soils, and the domaine has been certified organic from its first harvest.
How to Serve and Food Pairing
Serve lightly chilled at 57 to 60°F. Pair with herb-crusted pork tenderloin, roast poultry, coq au vin and country terrines.
