2023 | Domaine Henri Jouan Gevrey-Chambertin "Aux Echezeaux" | Côte de Nuits | France
One of the best values in Burgundy — old-vine Gevrey-Chambertin from a whispering, cult-adored domaine.
Domaine Henri Jouan, run since 2004 by Philippe Jouan from Morey-Saint-Denis, makes some of the most subtle and beautiful Burgundies going — often compared to the legendary Jacky Truchot for their poise and elegance. "Aux Echezeaux" is a Gevrey-Chambertin lieu-dit at the village's southern edge, bordering Morey and adjacent to the Charmes- and Mazoyères-Chambertin grand crus. Old vines (much of it ~90 years), 100% destemmed, minimal new oak.
Old-vine Gevrey from a cult-adored, under-the-radar domaine is a Burgundy insider's grail. Silky, mineral, haunting → old-school Gevrey without the inflated price → at $180.99 you're buying one of Burgundy's great values.

Red and black cherry over spice, earth and a soil-driven minerality, with incredible lift, freshness and an enchanting, silky texture. Translation: elegant, mineral, old-school Gevrey — red-fruited and perfumed with haunting depth and a beguiling, weightless lift.
A cult-adored, old-vine Gevrey at a rare value. Exactly the bottle for the Burgundy lover who prizes subtlety over show.
