The single most under-the-radar winery in all of Piedmont, per Antonio Galloni — traditional Barbaresco from a tiny Rocca-family estate.

La Ca'Nova is a 12-hectare family estate in Barbaresco, run by the Rocca brothers, who sold their grapes to Angelo Gaja before bottling their own from the 1970s. The winemaking is strictly traditional: native yeasts, long macerations, aging in large neutral Austrian oak. The fruit comes from two of the appellation's greatest crus — Montestefano and Montefico.

Galloni-endorsed traditional Barbaresco at this price is a genuine steal. Top-cru fruit, native-yeast, neutral oak → Galloni calls the prices "exceedingly modest" → at $67.99 you're drinking one of Piedmont's best-kept secrets.

  • 100% Nebbiolo
  • Barbaresco — Piedmont, Italy
  • La Ca'Nova — Rocca family, ultra-traditional
  • Fruit from the Montestefano & Montefico crus

Rose, dark cherry, tar and forest floor over firm, fine-grained tannins with a mineral-nuanced finish. Translation: everything Barbaresco should be — perfumed red fruit and roses, that classic tar-and-truffle savor, and a tannic spine built to age. Old-school Nebbiolo done right.

Galloni's favorite under-the-radar Piedmont estate. Exactly how you drink great Barbaresco before everyone else catches on.
