Quinta de la Quietud 'Quinta Quietud' Tinta de Toro Reserva
Quinta Quietud Reserva is the flagship red of Quinta de la Quietud: an organic, 100% Tinta de Toro from old bush vines in the DO Toro, Castilla y León, Spain. Aged 24 to 30 months in French oak, it is a powerful, structured Spanish red with the depth to pair with serious food and the backbone to age in the cellar.
Tasting Notes
Deep cherry red with a purple rim. The nose is powerful and layered, with black fruit preserves, licorice, dark cocoa and a mineral, graphite edge. The palate is dense yet refined, with firm, polished tannins, fresh acidity and a long, persistent finish.
Old Vine Tinta de Toro from the Heart of the Toro Appellation
Quinta de la Quietud was founded in 1999 on a gentle slope just south of the Duero river, near the town of Toro in the province of Zamora. Almost all of its estate vineyards are planted to Tinta de Toro, the local form of Tempranillo, which in Toro's extreme continental climate gives wines of deep color, ripe fruit and firm structure. The winemaker, Frenchman Jean-François Hébrard, trained in Bordeaux before settling in Castilla y León.
Organic Vineyards and Traditional Winemaking
The fruit for Quinta Quietud comes from bush vines planted between 1960 and 1988 at roughly 665 to 700 meters on sandy clay soils. The vineyards are dry farmed, worked by horse, harvested by hand and certified organic since 2002. Fermentation starts spontaneously with native yeasts in open, temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by 24 to 30 months in 225 liter French oak barrels, no more than a third of them new.
How to Serve and Food Pairing
Decant about an hour before serving and pour at 60 to 63°F. This Toro Reserva is made for roast lamb, grilled steak, braised beef, game and aged sheep's milk cheeses such as Manchego.
