About This Wine

Viu 1 is the jewel of Viu Manent's Colchagua Valley estate, named in honor of founder Miguel Viu García. Since its 1999 debut it has been drawn from Block 4 of the historic San Carlos vineyard near Cunaco — old Malbec vines planted more than a century ago — blended with a small proportion of century-old Cabernet Sauvignon. It is regarded as Chile's benchmark old-vine Malbec.

Deep, intense onyx-purple in the glass. The nose is perfumed, complex and fresh, with violet and blue flowers, red and blue berries, sweet spices, graphite and a subtle note of tobacco. The palate is structured yet elegant, with soft texture, fine tannins and a mineral, energetic freshness that carries into a long, persistent finish. Built for aging.
