|---|---|---|
| La Rioja Alta Gran Reserva 904 | Rioja · Red | The classic aged Rioja: clove, licorice, tobacco leaf and cigar box over a creamy, seamless palate. |
| Pago de los Capellanes Crianza 2022 | Ribera del Duero · Red | Elegant Tempranillo with ripe cherry, raspberry, a touch of vanilla and fine tannins. |
| Álvaro Palacios Camins del Priorat 2023 | Priorat · Red | Racy bramble berry, pomegranate and cherry, juicy and stony. The best way into Priorat. |

Spanish wine was made for the table. Pour Albariño or Txakoli with oysters, shellfish and pintxos; Fino or Manzanilla with jamón, olives and almonds; Rioja Crianza with tapas and roast chicken; Reserva and Gran Reserva with roast lamb; Ribera, Toro and Priorat with grilled steak; and a juicy Garnacha with paella or in a pitcher of sangria. See our guide to the best dry Spanish red wine for sangria.
We work with importers and estates across Spain, from historic Rioja houses and Sherry bodegas to small growers in Galicia, Bierzo and Priorat. Every bottle is kept in temperature-controlled storage until it ships, so the wine arrives the way the winemaker intended.
Rioja is Spain's most famous wine, followed by Ribera del Duero, Cava and Sherry. Among whites, Albariño from Rías Baixas is the best known.
For reds: Rioja, Ribera del Duero, Priorat, Toro, Bierzo and Jumilla. For whites: Rías Baixas, Valdeorras and Rueda. For sparkling wine: Penedès (Cava). For fortified wine: Jerez (Sherry).
The main red grapes are Tempranillo, Garnacha, Monastrell and Mencía. The main white grapes are Albariño, Godello, Verdejo, Viura and Palomino.
Yes. Spain offers some of the best value in wine, from excellent everyday reds and whites under $20 to aged Reserva and Gran Reserva wines that cost far less than comparable bottles from France or California.
They are aging categories. Crianza has aged at least 2 years, Reserva at least 3 and Gran Reserva at least 5, each with a minimum time in oak barrels.
Start with a Rioja Crianza or a young Garnacha for red, and an Albariño or Verdejo for white. They are approachable, food-friendly and affordable.
Both are built on Tempranillo. Rioja tends to be more elegant and savory with longer oak aging; Ribera del Duero is usually darker, riper and more concentrated.
For seafood paella, choose Albariño or a dry rosado. For meat or mixed paella, try a young Garnacha or a Rioja Crianza.
