The Gian Piero Marrone 2015 Barolo offers an interesting and somewhat unexpected bouquet with a very distinct aroma of wild rose or dried violet that is immediately followed by savory spice, tar and licorice. The wine makes a quick pivot from its fruity side to its spicy side, and only a few slim degrees of separation exists between the two. That quick slip adds to the accelerated pace of the wine that hits all the senses at once.
