    Luciano Sandrone: A Barolo Legend

Luciano Sandrone is one of the great names of modern Barolo. He began making wine in his family's garage in the 1970s, and his first Cannubi Boschis, now called Aleste, from the 1985 vintage put him among the leading producers of the Langhe. Today he runs the estate in Barolo with his son Luca. The winery works with only three grapes, Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto, and every fermentation is spontaneous, with indigenous yeasts. The wines are known for their purity, polish and balance: Barolo with power and perfume, made to age for decades.

    The Wines of Luciano Sandrone

Wine What It Is The Story
Barolo Aleste Single-vineyard Barolo, Cannubi Boschis From the Cannubi Boschis vineyard in the village of Barolo, first made in 1985. The name joins those of Luciano's grandchildren, ALEssia and STEfano. Aged in 500-liter French oak tonneaux and 18 months in bottle.
Barolo Le Vigne Multi-village Barolo A classic blend of four vineyards across the Barolo zone: Baudana in Serralunga, Villero in Castiglione Falletto, Vignane in Barolo and Merli in Novello. First vintage 1990.
Barolo Vite Talin The rare collector's Barolo Propagated from a single old Nebbiolo vine Luciano found in 1987 and named for Talin, the farmer who rented him the plot. Matured two years in tonneaux, one year in large casks and three years in bottle, and released six years after the vintage.
Valmaggiore Nebbiolo d'Alba Nebbiolo from the Roero From the Valmaggiore vineyard in Vezza d'Alba, a south-facing amphitheater of sandy soils whose grapes once set the price for the whole territory. A more approachable way into Sandrone Nebbiolo.
Barbera d'Alba Barbera from Monforte and Novello Hand-picked, each parcel vinified separately, then 15 months in 500-liter French oak and nine months in bottle.
Dolcetto d'Alba The everyday red From 11 parcels on the highest hills of Barolo, on white limestone above 350 to 400 meters. Aged in steel to keep its fresh fruit.

Every Luciano Sandrone wine currently in stock is listed above, with available vintages and formats, and new releases appear here automatically.

    The Sandrone Style

Sandrone's Barolos sit between tradition and modernity. Spontaneous fermentation and long aging respect the classic Langhe approach, while the use of 500-liter French oak tonneaux, larger than a standard barrique, gives a polished texture without masking the fruit. The result is Nebbiolo with ripe cherry and rose, fine-grained tannins and great balance, approachable earlier than many traditional Barolos yet built to age for decades.

Aleste vs Le Vigne: Which Barolo to Choose?

Aleste is a single-vineyard Barolo from Cannubi Boschis, one of the most famous sites in the village of Barolo, with depth, intensity and long aging potential. Le Vigne blends four vineyards from four different villages into a complete, harmonious expression of the whole Barolo zone, in the tradition of the classic Langhe blends. Many collectors buy both to compare the same vintage.

    Serving and Food Pairing

Decant young Barolo for two to three hours and serve at 60 to 65°F in a large Burgundy-style glass. Barolo is superb with braised beef, brasato al Barolo, truffle risotto, tajarin with butter and white truffle, roast game and aged cheeses. Barbera pairs with pasta with ragù, pizza and grilled sausages, and Dolcetto with antipasti, salumi and weeknight dinners.
