This wine wowed me right out of the gate. It's deeply aromatic, with loads of ripe red and black fruit. Being grown at altitude up against the Montmirail mountains gives the wine deepened structure and a wonderful tension. On the nose the classic Grenache note of baked strawberries is there, but with black plum and licorice behind it. Olive oil and rosemary, lavender, and dried orange peel rise up in the background. It's firm and forceful on the palate, with strong body, rich texture, and big stony tannins. Black pepper, toasted coriander and smoked sea salt persist on the finish.
