The 2017 Brunello di Montalcino is soft and thickly textured, trending closer to the more concentrated style of the Sangiovese spectrum. However, the ripeness is accurate and spot-on, and there is no heaviness. Black fruit aromas are lively and bright, and the palate shows sweet spice and lots of balsamic herb, wild lavender or grilled rosemary. Those fragrant Mediterranean aromas run strong in this release from Ferretti (which is known as Pietra in Italy). This is a winery that I was previously unfamiliar with but that is now on my radar.
